National Honor Society (NHS) / HomeSt. John's Prep Chapter 

 

About the National Honor Society:

Established in 1921, the National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes exceptional high school students who embody four core principles: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. With over a million high school students engaged in NHS-related activities today, the society continues to uphold its prestigious legacy.

 

Eligibility for Nomination:

  • Prospective SJP 12th grade candidates must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 95 or higher.
  • Candidates must currently be enrolled in Honors or AP classes.
  • Students should have completed three or more Honors / AP classes before their senior year.
  • A minimum two-year attendance at St. John’s Prep is required.
  • All members are expected to partake in the induction ceremony held at the end of September.
  • Candidates' disciplinary conduct and attendance records are considered alongside their academic qualifications.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Upon induction, members are obliged to fulfill a minimum of 10 service hours*** each semester, coupled with semester-long responsibilities in peer tutoring.
  • Maintaining an overall GPA of 95 or higher is required.
  • Dismissal from the NHS may occur if a student violates its standards, obligations, or core principles.

 

***Service activities may encompass the following:

  • Membership in a St. John’s Prep team
  • Participation in a St. John’s Prep drama / musical production
  • Membership in St. John’s Prep Student Council  
  • Active participation in St. John’s Prep extracurricular programs
  • Volunteering with an external organization, parish, or community group
