Learning a language is great for everyone, opening you up to new realms of communication and cultural appreciation internationally. Learn Chinese, and educate yourself in the world’s most spoken language and the language of the future - economically, culturally and socially. 

Students who study Chinese in high school have an advantage when applying to college. Chinese is the language of the future for business and academic study. Tomorrow's leaders must be able to compete, work and thrive in a globalized world with diverse, multilingual consumers and economies in which China and the U.S. will continue to be major players. By offering St. John's Prep students early education opportunities to learn Mandarin, we can prepare them for careers in a globalized workplace.

This class is an introduction to Mandarin Chinese, the official language of China. The emphasis will be on spoken Mandarin. Oral communication will be our focus, but students will learn to read and write simplified Chinese characters. Together we will explore many interesting aspects of Chinese culture and history. 

Students enrolled in this course will also be connected to Chinese speaking students for practice.
