Campus Ministry
The Campus Ministry team at St. John's Prep consists of approximately 16 volunteer faculty members and 65 juniors and seniors who are selected through an application process and trained to lead retreats for their classmates. The selected campus ministers are required to attend one formation weekend in September and a mid-year retreat in February. Additionally, they are expected to attend meetings with their faculty advisors, large meetings with the entire team, and special community days.
The Office of Campus Ministry prepares about 50 retreats per year for the entire student body. Retreats are run by grade, with each year focusing on a specific theme. Students are invited to sign up for their retreat during homeroom, and are permitted to attend one retreat per semester. The retreats are held during school hours in the St. Paul Retreat Center, which is located on the 3rd floor, south side of the building.
In addition to running the retreat program, the Office of Campus Ministry is also responsible for coordinating a number of fundraising, service, and school spirit activities. Such activities include the Senior/Faculty Softball game that takes place every September, the adopt-a-family Christmas program, the Good Friday hunger walk, and the urban plunges, just to name a few.
The goal of the Office of Campus Ministry is to assist St. John's Prep in achieving its mission of helping our students to love God, love their neighbor, and love themselves.
Campus Life Formation Weekend
Each September, the campus life team travels upstate for their formation weekend. Preparation for this weekend begins during the summer, with the Director of Campus Ministry corresponding with the faculty advisors to discuss themes, schedules, and group activities.
