St. John's Prep offers its students an exciting, challenging and varied athletic program. Encompassing competitive teams as well as exercise and fitness clubs, our main goal is to encourage our students to develop a healthy lifestyle.

Baseball, basketball, bowling, soccer, swimming, tennis and track teams compete in the Catholic High School Athletic Association. Most sports teams play on three levels: Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity.  Our in-school intramural program offers: floor hockey, handball, basketball, ping-pong, touch football and volleyball. The dance clubs, step-teams, cheerleading and weight and fitness clubs offer the student body wholesome recreation.

The St. John's Prep teams are perennial league championship contenders. The varsity baseball team won the 2008, 2009 and currently competing for the 2010 city championship. In 2009 and 2010, the JV baseball team won the city championship, and the varsity team won for the second straight season. The varsity girls' track team captured the Brooklyn/Queens CHSAA Cross Country Championship. Recent city championships were won by our boys' varsity, JV and freshmen basketball.   In recent years, our boys' varsity soccer won divisional titles.

The girl's varsity basketball team won Division II Champs in 2009 and 2010.  They also were the State Semifinalists in 2009 and 2010.  The girl's JV basketball reached semifinals this year and girls volleyball also reached playoffs this year.

All St. John's teams and clubs are coached and moderated by full time teachers of St. John's Prep. Creating a healthy and active athletic environment along with team dedication and sportsmanship are the main goals of the St. John's Prep Athletic Program.
