Boy's JV Baseball Team Wins City Championship
On Saturday, May 22, 2010 in the semifinals vs. Sacred Heart the Red Storm posted a 7-0 victory for the right to face Lasalle Academy in the championship game. Alonzo Stagger pitched a 5 hit complete game shutout. Edwin Vidal scorched a double in the bottom of the 6th to start a rally that would see the Red Storm score 5 runs to put the game away.
On Sunday, St. John's Prep won an epic contest against a very good Lasalle Academy team. Gabe Adams pitched 6 and 2/3 innings to get the win. Mark Anthony Ramos came on to get the final out by strikeout. Ramos also went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's, Driton Dikoli went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's, Mike Perez went 1 for 1 with 2 RBI's including the game winner and Gabe Adams also contributed 2 RBi's. The team showed tremendous poise and an iron will to win this instant classic. Congratulations to the entire team and Coach Penikas.

Varsity Basketball Team Wins Alex Tierno Sportsmanship Award
Congratulations to the Boy's Varsity Basketball Team on winning the 2009 - 2010 Alex Tierno Sportsmanship Award. This award is presented by the IAABO Basketball Officials to the program that was voted most reflective of sportsmanship in all of Queens. It reflects the "highest praise an official's group can give to a sports program" and reflects the combined view of officials of the "character, philosophy and professionalism of the school's program". This is the 3rd time in the last 6 years that St. John's Prep has been selected for this prestigous award.
